So, my Dr. called me yesterday to tell me that she received my pathology report back from when I had surgery last week. I am potentially cancer free! There were no cancer cells in the surrounding tissue that was removed (clear margins)! It is a SMALL possibility that I will not have to have radiation or hormone therapy.
My slides are being sent off for a second opinion and I think that just as a precaution, and because this is a crucial point...I am going to seek a 2nd opinion as well (about post treatment). I initially didn't seek a 2nd opinion prior to this as a group of surgeons all agreed that an MRI + lumpectomy + sentinel node dissection was the first step. That part was easy and they were right. The lumpectomy is a breast conserving surgery and the lymph nodes were checked and double checked for cancer and nothing showed up.
I still meet with my Dr. tomorrow and the Radiology Oncologist. I'm going back to work on Friday and like I said yesterday, get back to a normal routine again. I live by routine and I have been out of sorts since August 9th.
I checked out CZ's blog this morning and this is what she shared! TOTALLY AWESOME!
