The Dr. visit...

I'd be safe to say that I really don't remember a thing that the Dr. said yesterday. But Paul was my ears and he soaked it all in. Of course, he knows the routine all too well because he went through all of this with his Pops this past year, too.

The cancer has broken through the walls of the ducts, which puts me at risk for it to travel to other parts of my body if it wanted to. It's called Invasive Ductal Carcinoma. I do want to tell you that I am VERY LUCKY! This tumor is SO SMALL, it is AMAZING that they found it! I think it's about this big -----> O <------

I have an MRI next week and then surgery (lumpectomy) will follow shortly thereafter and depending on the surgery results, we'll know what direction to head into with treatment which will probably be radiation and possibly drug therapy. Ultimately, surgery will decide where this all goes. While getting the lumpectomy, they will do a sentinel node biopsy under my arm and test them during surgery and if there is any signs that this is in my lymph nodes, they will take them too.

Thank you Amy and Julie for your kind words! We've been through a lot together in the last year or so, leaning on each other for advice and comfort! I'm gonna be OK! I wish we all lived closer! Maybe one day we'll all get together!! love ya girls!

OK, off to work...

I know you probably get sick of advice... but I just read the most incredible book ever called "The China Study" by T Colin Campbell. Its a huge study about animal protein (dairy and meat) and how it's linked to disease (cancer) and health. Seriuosly check it out ok....

Love Chels

and let us know what's going on ok.

A friend of mine, another Boston woman who's 35 and was just diagnosed with ductal carcinoma last week is going through the same thing you are.

I'm sending you the same calming thoughts I sent her yesterday when she had her consultation at Dana Farber. Good luck on your journey.
